Obituary of Colleen Dale Daviton-Burland


Pittsford, NY: Colleen Daviton-Burland was born in San Francisco, California on November 26, 1954, and passed away peacefully in Rochester, New York on November 29, 2019. Predeceased by her parents, David John and Jeanette Dale Daviton. Survived by her wife, Catherine Daviton-Burland and her siblings, David Mark (Laura), Michael (Celeste) and Candi (Gene Rankin); her neices and nephew, Davina Reynolds (Josh), Jenamarie Bacot (Mitchell), Leah Nygaard (Kyle), Michaelia McClure (Aaron), Lorina (Jeremy Summerfield) and Daniel (Alice Grimwood); 3 greatneices and 8 greatnephews (plus 2 on the way); aunt: Linda McKay (Don); her cats, Topaz and Ruby; and close family friends: Elissa Olsen and Beth Corker. She worked as a lab technician in the histology department at Strong Memorial Hospital for sixteen years, taught American Sign Language at different places in Rochester for several years, and then, retired as a clinical social worker at Rockland Psychiatric Center near New York City after nine years. She especially enjoyed traveling, crafting and gardening. She bowled and held offices for the state and regional bowling leagues, chaired a national conference, served on several boards and committees, and had done countless hours of volunteer work in the Deaf community, most recently at the Camp Mark Seven in Old Forge, NY as its landscaper. She will be very much missed by her family and many friends all over the country. A Celebration of Life will be held via Zoom on November 14, 2020. Donations honoring Collie’s love for landscape work at Camp Mark 7 may be sent to M7DF, with Collie Daviton-Burland CM7 Beautification Fund on the memo line.
