David L. Hooper, Jr.

April 9, 1959 - November 16, 2021

David L. Hooper, Jr., died peacefully on November 16, 2021, in Austin, Texas, at the age of 62, after struggling with scleroderma, an incurable auto immune disease.

David is survived by his parents, Jan and Mel Neese of Austin, sister Melissa (Hooper) Swartz and husband Larry of Kansas City, and brother Jon Hooper of Bedford, TX.

David was born on April 9, 1959, in Abilene, Texas, to Jan and David L. Hooper, Sr. He graduated from Cooper High School in 1977 and was a National Merit Scholar and played on the basketball team. He attended University of Texas as a Plan II student. After college, David worked as an independent insurance adjuster across the United States, helping victims of catastrophic occurrences rebuild their lives. He finished his career at IAA, an online insurance auto auction company where he managed various offices.

David is remembered as a generous and witty person who loved children and pets. He enjoyed watching Jeopardy and even applied to be on the show, but was never selected. He was highly intelligent and had an amazing memory; he knew the answers to so many of the questions!

A celebration of life and remembrance service is scheduled for Friday, November 26, at 4:00 PM at his parents' home in Austin to celebrate David's life. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Community First (, a social outreach ministry that has been empowering communities into a lifestyle of service with the homeless since 1998.
