Obituary

Dylan Chace, born Dylan Ward-Karet, passed away at his home in Portland, Oregon on January 8, 2022. Born on October 25, 1977 in Kabul, Afghanistan, Dylan grew up mostly in Claremont, California with summers spent in Unity, Maine. He also lived his first two years in Afghanistan, the next two years in Sierra Leone, two years in China mastering Mandarin, a semester in Turkey, a summer learning Spanish in Salamanca, and time living in Japan before attending college. He was a student at both the Webb School and Claremont High School before earning undergraduate and masters degrees in East Asian Studies at the University of Pennsylvania. Upon graduation he moved to Portland, Oregon with his future wife, Jessica Chace, with whom he had two children, Abilene and Julian. Following his passion for cycling, he worked for several years leading bicycle adventure tours throughout the western United States. Later, Dylan became a licensed contractor and started his own business, Roundhouse Design-Build. Over the years he designed and built the interiors of some of Portland's finest restaurants. Dylan loved music, traveling, cooking, swimming, diving, playing pool and building beautiful furniture. He is survived by his parents, Dana Ward and Julia Karet, brother Jesse Ward-Karet, sister Maya Ward-Karet, daughter Abi (14 yrs) and son Julian (12 yrs).
