Obituary

Ernest Kendall enjoyed his 33-year career as an executive at Union Carbide/Dow Chemical before retiring to home in Bridgewater, Vt., and Houston, Texas. He died August 8 in Houston at the age of 81.

While studying at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he pledged DKE, crediting his brothers there for supporting him during his college years. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Geoscience at MIT, and went on to get his doctorate in Geologic Science from UC Berkeley in California.

Ernest’s career hallmarks were his scientific rigor and a deep commitment to professional standards of integrity. In all his travels across the globe, Ernest said Africa stole his heart due to its vast, raw beauty and its diversity of peoples and cultures.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy, three daughters and a son.
