WILKES-BARRE — Frank B. Burnside Jr., (Mike), 72, of Wilkes-Barre, formerly a longtime resident of Harveys Lake, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2022.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Frank B. Burnside Sr. and Peggy Davis Burnside.
He graduated from Wyoming Seminary, King's College, The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and Wilkes University. He spent a majority of his professional career at Commonwealth Telephone Company in various roles including marketing research, strategic planning, corporate communications, and development of new services such as Internet, CATV and cellular telephony. He held additional positions at WVIA Public Broadcasting, the Etruscan Press at Wilkes University, and the Cultural Council of Luzerne County.
Mike was a member of the board of directors of the Tunkhannock Area School District, Luzerne County Historical Society, Pennsylvania Humanities Council, Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor, and Diamond City Partnership.
He enjoyed woodworking, spending time in nature, and his most enduring hobby, photography.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Post.
Surviving are his children Holly Burnside, Philadelphia; and Michael Burnside, Alexandria, Va.; sisters Diane Haddle and Bonnie Mills; and nieces Elizabeth Post, Rebecca Post, Marion Mills Conyngham, Jenifer Mills Roginski, Peggy Mills Sneed, and Marianne Revie.
