Helen Sue Wiggins

Helen Sue Wiggins of Abilene passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born in Salisaw, Oklahoma, on May 4, 1929, to Roy Moody and India Ola Boydston. She graduated from high school in Borger, Texa,s in 1947. After graduation she attended Baylor Nursing School and received a dual degree from Baylor University and Baylor School of Nursing in 1950.

While in nursing school she met the love of her life, a dental student named Robert Emory Wiggins, whom she married on September 23, 1950. They moved to Abilene in 1963 were inseparable for 67 years before his death in 2017.


Mrs. Wiggins' focus in life was raising their five children. She supported her husband by assisting in the dental office and being a member of the 17th District Dental Auxiliary. She was an active member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church for 58 years and enjoyed being a part of the Ruth Circle.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, a brother Marvin Moody, and a sister Norma Pinard.

Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Suellen Mahaffey of Garland; daughter Cindy Philipp of Sacramento, CA; son Dr. Robert E. Wiggins and wife Jane of Abilene; daughter Liana and husband Tommy Tolson of Lucas, TX; and son James Wiggins and wife Sheri of Frisco, TX. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren, and many close friends.

A visitation will be held at Aldersgate United Methodist Church on Friday January 21, 2022, from 4:00-6:00 PM following a private burial at Texas Veterans Cemetery in Abilene alongside her husband. In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church Foundation or the donor's favorite charity.
