Herbert Henry Okrongly, age 95, passed away Saturday August 31, 2019 in Glendale, AZ. He was born in Hamburg, Germany. The family migrated to the United States when he was four years old. He proudly served during World War II in the Army Air Force, as a radar operator and an instructor in the radio school, from November 1942 to February 1946. He held the rank of sergeant. In civilian life prior to the military he was a sewing machine repairman. After the military, in 1950, he earned a bachelor of science in journalism from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He had a long career in advertising working for companies like McCall’s magazine, Motorola and Zenith Radio. He worked in Illinois, New York, and California. He enjoyed golfing. When he retired, he was living in Walnut Creek, CA and later moved to Davis, CA. He moved to Arizona in 2016. He is predeceased by his parents Martha (Meyer) and Hugo Okrongly of Houston, TX, his brothers Hugo Hans Okrongly of Houston, TX and Frederick Okrongly of Milford, CT, his wife Valerie Okrongly of Walnut Creek, CA, his daughter Klara (Okrongly) Rice, of Olympia, WA and his sister-in-law, Louise Okrongly of Milford, CT. Surviving him are his nephew James Okrongly and his wife Patricia (Conroy) Okrongly of New Hartford, CT, his nieces Diane (Okrongly) Clark and her husband Joseph Clark of Spring Hill, FL, and Lori Okrongly and her partner Tito Valentin, of Phoenix, AZ, grandnieces Amy (Okrongly) Mirizzi and her husband Brian Mirizzi, Lisa (Okrongly) Pintoff and her husband Jonathan Pintoff, Rebecca (Okrongly) Lax and her husband Joe Lax, a grandnephew, Trevor Okrongly, great-grand nephews Austin Mirizzi and Brody Pintoff, and great-grand nieces Makayla Mirizzi, Peyton Pintoff and Margaret Lax. He is also survived by a son-in-law Timothy Rice of Bellingham, WA.
