James C. Ivey, Jr, (Col, USAF, Ret.) 88, of Albany, GA, died on Monday, February 13, 2023 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:00 am at Avalon United Methodist Church. Rev. Debbie Cone will officiate. Committal services with Military Honors will follow at 2:00 pm at Andersonville National Cemetery.


Mr. Ivey was born on July 13, 1934 to James C. and Doris Ivey, Sr in Sharpsburg, GA. He was raised in East Point, GA and graduated from Russell High School. He attended and graduated from Georgia Tech, where he was a member of Lambda Chi Fraternity. Mr. Ivey received his Masters Degree from Auburn University.


Mr. Ivey joined the United States Air Force in 1957, was a veteran of the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam. He served his country for twenty-seven years before retiring with the rank of Colonel. Mr. Ivey moved to Albany, GA in 2005 and was a very active member of both Avalon United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #30. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Bill Ivey.


Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Bridges Ivey of Lee County, GA, his children, Rita (John) Edinger of Charleston, SC, Randy (Sabrina) Ivey of Warner Robins, GA and Kim (Jim) Glass of Lee County, GA, a sister, Jo Handley of Dothan, AL, his grandchildren, Ivey (Stephen) Christmas of Charleston, SC, Danielle (Nick) Buchan of Charlotte, NCV, Blaine Ivey of Warner Robins, GA, Blake (Brittney) Ivey of Warner Robins, GA, Ben (Emmie) Glass of Lee County, GA and Meredyth (Ricky) Arambulo of Albany, GA and six great-grandchildren.
