Obituary

Joseph Melon Stovall was born in McAlester, OK in 1930 and lived a long, full life of 92 years. He was the only child of Claud and Alice Stovall. He graduated from McAlester High School as a clarinet player in the band and president of his senior class. He met his future wife Dody Hall when she threw a snowball at him on the MHS campus. They were married 57 years. After high school graduation, he joined the Naval Reserve and then the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a freemason in McAlester and earned a marketing degree from Oklahoma State University where he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. For the majority of his career he was a banker, beginning at Mercantile National Bank in Dallas, TX and later at Garland Bank and Trust where he was named president at age 36, a position he held until retirement. He served on the Board of Trustees at Baylor Medical Center at Garland, was a Christian man, fisherman, golfer, skier, dashing ballroom dancer, as well as loving husband and father. He spent 27 enjoyable years retired in Hideaway, TX. He is preceded in death by his late wife, Dody, and survived by his three children Scott (& Melinda) of Plano, Spencer (& Debbie) of Ft. Worth and Cathy of Houston as well as seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Services will be held at the Hideaway Lake Community Church, July 20 at 11 a.m.
