John Michael Phillipe (Jack) was born on February 19, 1942, in Taunton, MA to Joseph and Alice Phillipe. He was the second of three children and developed a close relationship with his older brother Dennis and younger sister Charlene. After graduation from Msgr. James Coyle High School in 1960, Jack received a football scholarship and graduated from Boston University in 1964. He spent his college years as a proud brother of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. Jack married Tricia Manning in 1965. They first met in third grade and began dating in junior high school. Together they traveled the world and raised two children Michael and Allison. They would also become grandparents to Katherine Tate Martindale, Michael Elliott Martindale, and Arthur Stephen Martindale III. Jack and Tricia moved to Ohio after he was accepted into the Firestone Management Trainee Program and International Division. During this time, he also obtained an MBA from the University of Akron. His career afforded the opportunity to travel and live in Ohio, the Philippines, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Missouri where they have lived in St. Louis since 1984. For those who knew him, everyone appreciated his great sense of humor, funny one-liners, and friendly demeanor. Jack was always curious and loved meeting new people. He was trusted and sought out for advice on important matters by family and friends. To those who loved him, he was a caring husband, loving father, and doting grandfather called Poppy. Jack was truly a unique personality whose presence made life richer for all, and that personality continued to shine through to the very end. Jack passed away on May 30, 2022, at his home in St. Louis from renal failure and his body was donated to Washington University Medical School in St. Louis, MO. He is preceded in death by his parents Alice and Joseph Phillipe, sisters-in-law Carole Phillipe, Mary Joan Driscoll, and Rosemary Manning. Besides his three grandchildren, Jack is survived by his wife of 56 years Patricia Manning Phillipe, son Michael and daughter Allison and husband A. Stephen Martindale Jr. He also leaves behind his siblings Dennis Phillipe (Maureen) and Charlene Creeden (Robert), his in-laws Eleanor and James Kelleher, David Driscoll, Elizabeth and Tom Manning, Wendy and Russell Manning, Kevin Manning, and Susan Manning and James Paterson, along with several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on Cape Cod, Massachusetts later this summer for family and friends.
