Obituary

Louis Copeland Spell, 68, passed away March 9, 2023, after a long battle with cancer. Louis, affectionately known as Worm, was a devoted husband and father. He leaves behind the love of his life, Pamela (Pam) Peel Spell, and his cherished son, Copeland Spell. Copeland was his proudest achievement. His many friends will remember Louis sitting on the sidelines watching his many sporting events. Some of his fondest memories were traveling with Pam up and down the east coast to watch Copeland play football for Elon University.Being a proud NC State alumnus, Worm was devoted to his alma mater and his Lambda Chi Fraternity. He cherished his fraternity brothers as they remained a true constant in his life. Worm was recently recognized by his fraternity by the creation of the Louis "Worm" Spell High Alpha Achievement Award presented to the outgoing presidents of Lambda Chi Alpha at North Carolina State University. He was honored and humbled to receive this award.The scope of his character would never fit in an obituary, but he was an exceptional man of goodness, Christian faith, a loyal friend, with a deep love of family and a quick wit.Louis also leaves behind his father-in-law, Paul H. Peel Jr, sister-in-law Janet Peel Scott, niece, Emmi Peel Grosso (Michael), and his beloved soon to be daughter-in-law, Lauren Taylor Humphreys.He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Doris Spell, his mother-in-law, Janie Griffin Peel. Louis is survived by his sister, Vicky Spell McMillan and brother-in-law John McMillan. He leaves behind many dear friends that supported and gathered around him throughout his illness.
