Lyman Hammond passed peacefully at home into the presence of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 7, 2023. He was 86 years old and had bravely battled Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at Alta Vista Cemetery.

He is survived by Pat, his loving wife of 59 years; sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Roy Rice in Texas; and sister-in-law, Linda Plevyak in Virginia. He is predeceased by his father, Lyman Lamar Hammond, and his mother, Frances Hammond.

From 1966 until 1997, Lyman was an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of the Golden Eagle Military Band at North Georgia College and State University, which later became The University of North Georgia. For over 20 years, Lyman enjoyed leading the Dahlonega community band called "Remember When," performing frequently at fundraising events, Hancock Park events, and many private occasions. He entertained audiences with performances on the trombone, saxophone, and banjo.

He served God as a member, a deacon, and a Sunday school teacher at Dahlonega Baptist Church until his university retirement and subsequent move to Gainesville, Georgia, where he and Pat became members of Lakewood Baptist Church and the Wisdom Seekers small group. He had a keen wit, a kind heart, and a loving spirit, and he will be greatly missed.
