Nita Faye Tarrant

June 7, 1936 – June 20, 2021

 

Nita Faye Tarrant, 85, of Abilene, formerly of Clyde, went to her heavenly home Sunday, June 20, 2021, in an Abilene hospital following a brief illness.

 

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 26, 2021, at the First Baptist Church of Clyde with Dr. Toby Henson officiating under the direction of Bailey Howard Funeral Home., Burial will follow in the Clyde Cemetery., Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.

 

Nita was born June 7, 1936, in Tye, Texas, to William Absolem and Eva Lee (Bigham) Dixon. She graduated as salutatorian from Clyde High School in 1954 and was voted Queen of the high school. Nita married Billy Jesse Tarrant in Clyde on January 7, 1956. She owned and operated Nita’s Nook in Clyde from January 1985 until August 2004. She had also worked as a secretary for the Clyde Chamber of Commerce, Clyde I.S.D. and Taylor County Tax Assessor. She was a very active member of the First Baptist Church of Clyde, involved in many activities including helping with the funeral luncheons for the church members. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheels for many years.

 

She is survived by her son Dennis Tarrant and wife Kim of Abilene; daughter Joleene Carson of Abilene; brother William Leo Dixon and wife Virginia of Clyde; two sisters, Fannie Ruth Froman and husband Stanley of Clyde and Eva Cleo Young of Sharpsburg, Georgia; sister in law, Gaye Cranfill and husband Randy; four grandchildren, Troy Tarrant and wife Whitney of Lubbock, Clay Tarrant of Abilene, Jenna Carson Eckstein and husband Ethan of Lubbock, and Chelsea Carson Schulz and husband Seth of Lubbock; five great grandchildren, Kennedy Schulz, Landri Tarrant, Collier Schulz, Crawford Schulz, and Waylon Tarrant, and numerous nieces and nephews.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, father in law and mother in law, Hilton and Cathron Tarrant, and brother in law, Doug Tarrant.
