Obituary

MASON, R. Douglas Jr., 81, of Richmond, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2016, surrounded by family. Doug was born March 15, 1935 in Norfolk, Va., to Ralph and Virginia Morrissette Mason. Raised in Burkeville, Va., he graduated from William & Mary in 1957. Doug enlisted in the Army National Guard and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis in 1961. He retired from The Hartford Insurance Company after 33 years of service. He was predeceased by his wife, Naomi Schiable Mason; and his parents. He is survived by his sons, Scott (Mila) and Steven; two grandchildren, Rachel Mason and 2nd Lt. Christian Mason; a brother, William (Joanna) Mason; and many other relatives and friends. A celebration of Doug's life will be held Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at 10 a.m., at Bon Air United Methodist Church, Richmond, Va. Interment to follow at 3 p.m., at Pisgah Baptist Church, Rice, Va. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gary Sinise Foundation (veterans) or a charity of your choice.
