Robert Gurwitz, age 83, passed away on Sunday, September 18, 2022, in San Antonio. He was born on March 28, 1939, in San Antonio Texas and raised in Three Rivers Texas. In high school he was an all-state athlete in both football and basketball. Following high school Bobby attended The University of Texas where he played football under the legendary Coach Darryl Royal and was a three year letterman. While at school, Bobby met the love of his life, Gail, his wife of 61 years. Bobby and Gail set off on amazing life together that was filled with an abundance of love and blessings. Those blessings included their two sons Gregg and Brad, their daughter Julie Dubrof, daughter's in-law Jeanne and Lisa, son in law Joe Dubrof and their grandchildren Hayley, Zachary, Matthew, Jeffrey, Zane, Adam, Natalie and Katie.
After a couple years of working as an accountant, Bobby went to work with his father in law, Julian Gold. For over 50 years Bobby created a culture of service, integrity, and inclusiveness. Bobby was instrumental in growing Julian Gold into an industry stalwart. Bobby possessed an incredible mind for business only matched by the charm and warmth he showed employees and customers alike. With James Glover by his side for the last 30 years, they ensured Julian Gold would continue to be a lasting legacy to his style, grace and brilliance.
Bobby loved to hunt, fish, play golf, and most of all he loved his family. Bobby was never one to talk about his own accomplishments but when asked about his children, he would beam with pride and talk to you as long as you would like. Family was everything to Bobby, both he and Gail set an example and created a path for their own children to follow. In turn, he was blessed with 8 grandchildren all who fiercely loved and admired their "Pop". Bobby was never as happy as he was when surrounded by his entire family on the annual family trip. He would hold court with a drink and a cigar and revel in the joy his family brought him.
Bobby was as comfortable on the farm in Three Rivers or the football field in Austin as he was on the floor of Julian Gold. Bobby Gurwitz was truly a renaissance man. Most importantly, Bobby was a man of his word, a family man, a man of his community and was held in the highest esteem by those lucky enough to call him their friend, father, brother, and husband.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Sarah Gurwitz; and his in-laws Dorothy and Julian Gold. He is survived by his wife Gail, his kids Gregg and Jeanne Gurwitz, Brad and Lisa Gurwitz, Julie and Joe Dubrof and his 8 grandchildren as well as his siblings Phyllis Davis and her husband Lenny, Joyce Shefts, and Gary Gurwitz and his wife Bailey.
The family would like to express sincere thanks to the staff of The Forum at Lincoln Heights Memory Care and his care givers Lila Hartsfield, Andrea Moralez, and Irvin Rousell for all of their help and assistance.
