Rochelle Fay Nagrod passed away at age 78 in Ocean, New Jersey on March 20, 2020.
She was born in July 1941 in New York City to her parents, Lillian and Ben Sacher.
Rochelle was a graduate of Monmouth College (now University), earning her Bachelor of Arts in English in 1963. She went on to become an elementary school teacher in Manalapan, NJ, but spent the majority of her career as a 7th and 8th grade language arts and reading teacher in the Ocean Township Intermediate School before retiring in 2006.
After moving often in her early years, Rochelle’s family eventually settled on the Jersey Shore. Rochelle attended Long Branch High School where she was a majorette and active in school plays. She continued her love of the arts throughout her lifetime and enjoyed supporting local artists at art shows and festivals across the region.
Rochelle made Ocean, NJ her home for many decades, raising her family, working, and retiring in the township. She was a member of Congregation Torat El in Oakhurst, and its legacy synagogue, Temple Beth Torah.
Rochelle courageously fought a nearly 17-year battle with ovarian cancer and credited her team of doctors affiliated with Monmouth Medical Center for helping her sustain that long fight.
Rochelle is survived by her husband, Moe, and children, Kenneth and Jeanine, all of Ocean, NJ. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Sacher, and his wife Irene of Columbia, MD.
Rochelle will be remembered for her giving and compassionate nature, her love of animals, and her dedication to her students and her family. Donations in her memory can be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, the Associated Humane Societies and Popcorn Park, the World Wildlife Fund and Lunch Break.
