Ruben Gonzales Billalba Jr.

May 14, 1947 – January 13, 2021

 

Ruben Gonzales Billalba passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Ruben was born to Ruben, Sr., and Rosalia Billalba on May 14, 1947, in Big Spring, Texas, and was the first born of what would be eight children into the household.

 

He graduated from Big Spring High School in 1966. Ruben married Irma Rey on April 16, 1966, in Big Spring, where they lived until they relocated to Dallas. He worked in Management for Dallas Power & Light/TU Electric before retiring. Ruben and Irma eventually settled in Grand Prairie and enjoyed 40 years of marriage.

 

Upon retirement Ruben volunteered his time as the SGP Warrior Quarterback Booster Club President for 16 years. During those years Ruben touched the lives of many students and saw his grandchildren Miranda and Nick through to their graduation from SGP. He was a strong family man with a giant heart who cared deeply for the football program and for all of Warrior Nation. Ruben was active and well known in the Grand Prairie community as a Great and Mighty Warrior.

 

Over the years Ruben held summer visits known as “Camp Kookamunga” for his many nieces and nephews. They looked forward to their visits and enjoyed swimming, trips to Six Flags and so much more fun. He took great pleasure in surprising them.

 

Ruben is preceded in death by his wife Irma Rey Billalba, father Ruben, Sr., and mother Rosalia, and sister Frances McKiski of Big Spring, father in law, Celedonio Rey of Midland, brother in law, Jim Rey of Richardson, and sisterin law, Margie Rodriguez.

 

He is survived by a large and loving family including girlfriend and companion, Sally Arguello, d,ughters Bonnie and husband Mike Schmitz of Plano, Monica and husband Frank Elizondo of Desoto, son, Ruben Billalba, III, of Waukee, IA, grandchildren, Miranda and Abel Treviso of Grand Prairie, Nick and Sarah Billalba of Lubbock, and Sienna Rey Billalba of Norwalk, IA, great grandchildren, Christian, Jack, Sofia, Adrian, Ava, and soon to arrive Daisy Rey, brother, Tommy and wife Olga Billalba of Big Spring, sisters, Beatrice Billalba Stevens of Lubbock, Mary Lou and husband Santos Lujan of Big Spring, Adelina and husband Albert Correa of Canyon, Nora and husband Peter Paul of Henderson, NV, Delia and husband Mike Cruz of Amarillo, Mother in law, Rosa Rey of Midland, brother in law, Alfonso Rey of Austin, sister in law, Celia and husband Luis Sosa of Midland, brother in law, Danny and wife Cecilia Rey of Albuquerque, NM, and sister in law, Melinda Hernandez of Midland.
