Obituary

Thomas Cunningham Soter died unexpectedly on April 10, 2022, at his home in Virginia Beach. Born March 24, 1948, in Newport News, VA, he was the son of the late George Joseph and Janet Cunningham Soter.Tom was a graduate of Hampton High School and Chowan College, where he was a two-year starter in basketball and vice president of the student body. He graduated from the Business School of the University of Richmond in 1970 and was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity.Tom was a longtime salesman for Beach Ford, where many customers became lifelong friends. He loved the water, boating, sports, and fellowship in the Virginia Beach United Methodist Church. Tom was a lifetime resident of Tidewater Virginia, a community he loved and who loved him in return.Surviving are his daughters Jennifer Wolf (Rob) of Charlottesville, VA, and Amy Calfee (Bobby) of Aiken, SC, and seven grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers David Soter (Carol) and Bob Soter (Linda), and nieces and nephews.A Celebration of Life service will be held at Virginia Beach United Methodist Church on June 15 at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of your choice in Tom's memory.
