Mr. Chung-Hong Wong was born on December 25th, 1949 in Ningbo, Zhejiang province, China. The eldest of 3 to Wong Pan Wing and Ho Ah Shau, Chung-Hong was raised in Kowloon, Hong Kong where he graduated from Wah Yan College before he went on to move to the United States in 1968. There, he graduated from Texas A&M University at College Station with a chemical engineering degree in 1976 as part of their centennial class. Known as Thomas to everyone in College Station, he became the bridge for Hong Kong students coming to A&M while serving as President of the Texas A&M Chinese Students Association. He had several stops seeing the United States crisscrossing the continent, eventually settling in Houston where he met his wife, Sophia. Thomas wooed her with 100 roses delivered to her workplace; thankfully she said yes. He moved from Houston to Honolulu in 1988 where he got married to Sophia and had a son, Jonathan, in 1991. He ran The T-Shirt Store with Sophia for the past 30 years, becoming a fixture in the Kalihi community. Thomas donated graduation t-shirts to numerous 5th grade classes at Ala Wai Elementary and donated ‘Iolani fair coupons to those students. His happiest moments were spending time with his family and friends at his favorite restaurant, Fook Yuen Seafood Restaurant.
Chung-Hong was preceded in death by his father, Wong Pan Wing, and mother, Ho Ah Shau.
