William Dee “Billy” Clemmer

June 22, 1933 - May 4, 2021

 

William Dee “Billy” Clemmer, 87, of Abilene passed away on May 4, 2021.

 

Visitation will be Sunday, May 9, from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at The Hamil Family Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 10, at 2:00 PM in the First Baptist Church Sanctuary with Dr. Phil Christopher of First Baptist Church, Abilene, officiating. Burial at 10:00 AM at Texas State Veterans Cemetery. Services are under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Bap Road.

 

Billy was born in Hamby to Bert and Ethel Clemmer on June 22, 1933. He went to school at Hamby and Abilene High. He graduated from Abilene High School in 1953. He married Betty Chapman on June 20, 1957, in Abilene. He worked as an Engineering Technician for TX DOT for 33 years and for the U.S. Corp of Engineers at Dyess Air Force Base in Abilene. He was a veteran of the Korean war and served in the Army as an MP. He was a deacon at FBC Hawley and a member of FBC Abilene.

 

Billy was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bert” Clemmer and Ethel Idel Clemmer; sisters, Betsy Ross, Doris Prewit, and Rosa Pearl Clemmer.

 

Billy is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Ruth Clemmer; sons and daughters in law, Greg and Vickie Clemmer, Steve and Debra Clemmer, and Walt and Karen Clemmer; grandchildren, David and Stacey, Bryan, Drew, and Jared; and great grandsons, Trenton and Brody.

 

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association. The family of Billy wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Hendrick Hospice for their care.
