Obituary

Faulkner Jr., William G. (Billy), 56, went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, October 13, 2014 following a brief illness. Billy is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bernadine Rushing Faulkner (Birmingham); daughter, Virginia Leigh Faulkner (Vernon, CT); son, William G. Faulkner, III (Trey) also of Birmingham; his parents William G. (Bill) Faulkner Sr. and Rita V. Faulkner of Montgomery; his sister Claire F. King (Prattville) and her children Daniel, Taylor and Judson King and sister Carol F. Smyser (Bill) of Huntsville and their children Will (Elizabeth), Drew and Frank Smyser; in addition to many extended family members. Billy grew up in Montgomery where he attended First Baptist Church and graduated from Jeff Davis High School in 1976. He went on to attend Auburn University where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Fraternity. Upon graduation with a degree in Mechanical Engineering, he settled in Birmingham where he spent the next 33 years working for Trane Corporation. He was an avid hunter and bicyclist all his life. Billy and Bernadine married in 1985 and have been active members at Brookwood Baptist Church where Billy was a deacon, served on many committees and was a much loved preschool teacher. "Mr. Billy's" class traditions included no shoes in Sunday School and playground access climbing out the classroom window. Billy had a passion for construction missions and was a dedicated participant and supporter of Builders for Christ where he was involved in church construction for many years in multiple locations around the country. Family and friends will gather at Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, Birmingham, AL 35223 on Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 5-7 pm. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Brookwood Baptist Church Friday, October 17th at 11:00. The family would like to offer a special thank you to the team of nurses and doctors in the Cardiac Care Unit at Trinity Medical Center In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Billy's honor to Builders for Christ mission trip or the preschool/children's ministry at Brookwood Baptist Church, 3449 Overton Road, Birmingham, AL 35223
